Walter Jule
Walter Jule (University of Washington, MFA 1966; Head, Interior Design program, Montana State University, 1966-1970) was born in 1940, in Seattle, USA. Immigrating to Canada in 1970, he was instrumental in establishing the country’s first printmaking master’s program at the University of Alberta - retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2006.
Known as a printmaker, book and poster designer, curator and writer, he has exhibited in more than 300 exhibitions in 44 countries, winning twelve national and sixteen international awards. Over 70 collections including: National Galleries of Canada, New Zealand, and India, and MoMA, New York. In 2015, he received the Southern Graphics Council International Teaching/Practice Award, and in 2019 the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award.
